We recently came back from a 5 night stay at The Danna in Langkawi. It is definitely one of the better hotels that I have stayed at in Malaysia...beautiful, clean and spacious rooms with gorgeous views (we stayed in a Marina View room). The staff were mostly very friendly and helped as much as they could. Beautiful pool area that does not feel over-crowded (I was told by staff that they have the biggest pool in Langkawi) and the views from the beach are stunning. The spa was offering a buy one free one deal so I had to take advantage of that. The regular prices at the spa were reasonable as well and the massages I had there were great (I did the Malay and Balinese massages). Breakfast buffet under current COVID19 SOPs was still great...guests can't go up and pick out the food they want, but can ask for it from a distance and the helpful staff would pick out what you wanted...eggs could be ordered at the table and they had a great array of styles in which they would make it for you...my favourite, the huevos rancheros, which I ordered daily once I discovered it on day 2. The hotel is also ideally located close to the cable car and sky bridge as well as a couple of waterfalls, about 20-25 minute drive from the Kilim Geoforest Mangrove Park (a must do for anyone visiting Langkawi - a gorgeous 1/2 day out), the crocodile farm and the wildlife park (which we also loved and great on a rainy day as it is mostly covered). Chenang town is about a 20 minute drive away where there are many restaurants, handy-craft and tourist information shops. My daughter loves going to the kids club and while it was not permanently manned (The Danna please consider having staff on hand at the kids club at all times...other hotels we have stayed at did this and it was great) and she had to be booked in to go, but we could do that and in about 1/2 an hour, the service was always available (the gym and kids club were regularly sanitised throughout the day).
We pre-booked our transfer to the hotel prior to arrival and were greeted with a spacious, clean MPV (RM80 for a return transfer). The car provided cold towels for us which was great.
Once we arrived at the hotel, we received a welcome drink, another cold towel and a 3 minute taster massage from one of the spa staff (first time getting one of these when arriving at a hotel...great job The Danna!)
We booked our trip via Expedia and discovered upon arrival that breakfast was not included for my daughter (despite listing the number of guests through the website) in the price we paid so we had to pay an extra RM220. The Danna, please consider the number of people and include prices accordingly through your partners so guests are not greeted upon arrival with this type of thing.
My main complaint about the place would be the price of food. We ate at one of their restaurants when we first got there and realised very quickly that once you add service charge and taxes, meals for a family of 3 like ours were going to be around RM200 (without ordering starters, deserts or fancy drinks), which we felt was just too much, given that we were not getting gourmet style meals nor was the food fantastic (it was just reasonably good...nothing to shout about). My daughter wanted an ice cream from the hotel's deli and the staff said it was RM28 for two scoops in a cup...of course with the taxes and service charge added on top, the bill came up to nearly RM50!!! For 2 scoops of very mediocre ice cream!!! Not worth it!!!!
There are meant to be a number of restaurants nearby The Danna but unfortunately due to the pandemic, nothing was open in the development right in front of the hotel, except for one Italian restaurant by the docks which only opened at night (worth a visit for the ambiance, the food and slightly cheaper prices)...so we felt we had to get out of the hotel for meals. The car rental was definitely a great way to get around the island and definitely cheaper than taking a Grab car very time we wanted to go out. We had taken down the number of one of the car rental services from the airport which were advertising cheap car rentals and we checked with the hotel concierge before we called the rental company and they advised us that while it was cheap, that we were not likely to get a pristine car and that we should record all the defects by camera and send it over to our contact at the rental company on the day we received the car in order to avoid any disputes upon returning the car, which was great advice as we wanted to go with the cheaper option (RM50 per day from the airport car rental service as compared to RM130 per day if rented from the hotel). The car was definitely not pristine and we did as the hotel concierge advised us and had no trouble getting our deposit back at the end of our stay from the rental company. It was fine as a run-around for us on the island.
Front door staff were always friendly and helpful, getting us umbrellas and bottles of water if we required it before we left the hotel for food or an excursion.
The only other point I would suggest to The Danna would be to provide evening entertainment at your drinks lounge nightly. It was all really quiet at the hotel in the evenings, which was a little dull. We have been to other 5 star hotels overseas and the evening entertainment always added a great atmosphere and made us stop, have a listen and some drinks as well before turning in for the night.

I rented the Empress villa for the family and had a great time. The kids loved having a pool that they can jump into any time. The pool water was clean and didnt have that nasty chorine taste. Jaswin attended to our needs and she was very helpful. In addition all the staff that we came across at Danna were very polite and helpful at any time. I will be going back to Langkawi for business in the next two weeks and will be staying at Danna. The family would like to go back to Langkawi next month and we have booked the villa again.

Stunning rooms, clean, ideally located, well trained and professional staff made our stay absolutely 💯 % perfectly memorable. Every single one of them. We can't fault one thing at The Dana. Housekeeping attended to our request immediately to change the feather bed linen even though it was late at night. The Breakfast staff never faltered. Even when we arrived early before our ride each morning. The porters/ bellhops got to know us over our time there and were more than helpful and welcoming, even when we walked in and out 10-15 times in preparation for our morning rides. We can go on and on praising this beautiful hotel. You won't be sorry if you choose this place for your next stay.

We had a fantastic experience. Courteous, welcoming and helpful staff, great service, wonderful breakfast! Amazing due to the COVID situation. Nice and calm environment. About 20 Minutes from the airport, shops, bars and restaurants.
We will definitively recommend the place to family and friends.

The room was quite spacious and most of all housekeeping was done twice in a day. There is a dedicated kiddy area with proper eqipment and toys for kids to learn and have fun.
