Hotel Nacional de Cuba

The hotel

This famous hotel built in original Art Deco style in 1930 has welcomed its fair share of celebrities over the years — Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill and Ernest Hemingway have all been guests and who can blame them? Located in the middle of the Vedado district of Havana, overlooking the harbour, sea wall and city, this hotel is an ideal base from which to explore the unique city of Old Havana only 5 minutes away by taxi from the old town. Spend your days wandering the nearby cobbled streets of Old Havana, but don't forget to take some time to relax by the pool sipping a thirst-quenching mojito from the pool bar! In the evenings, there's a choice of smart à la carte dining in Comedor de Aguiar or delicious buffet meals at La Veranda and 5 more bars at which to try the local rums!

Copy of the Breakers in Palm Beach but that is about it. Reception does not know the word customer service, looks like the IRS in the medieval ages. No credit for 1 night that we did not want to stay as cockroaches fell out of the ac. The carpet was probably 50 years old and the bath tub, yes more than 20 horses bathed there, grey no longer white.… Read more

The hotel is nice. It's old but well-kept and clean. Each floor is a little different. We stayed in two different rooms (one at the beginning and one at the end of our Cuba trip). A/C worked well, plenty of room, nice bathrooms. Staff was always ready to help. The pool was nice. The restaurant for breakfast buffet had lots of options including… Read more

Wait staff was attentive. Concierge was super helpful and called local restaurants to make reservations for us. Cigar shop was amazing. Mariela was our maid while we were there and she was so sweet and friendly and did a great job making sure our room looked great when we returned each evening. I highly recommend this hotel. Image of the Tripadvisor rating There's a fair bit of history and nostalgia in this famous Havana landmark.

This is an iconic Havana location, and not to be missed. There’s no problem about non-guests visiting, and you’ll probably want to stay for a drink anyway. It’s great to sit above the Malecon with a cocktail, which will cost little more than you’ll normally pay elsewhere in Havana. As well as taking in the views, take a chance to see the huge gun… Read more

It’s great to sit above the Malecon with a cocktail, which will cost little more than you’ll normally pay elsewhere in Havana. As well as taking in the views, take a chance to see the huge gun emplacements, with guns manufactured by Krupp’s still in situ. Inside the hotel be sure to visit the area dedicated to the numerous famous guests who have stayed at the hotel, including Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. This room also includes statues of Compay Segundo and Nat King Cole. Read less
