Best time to go

Thai temperatures average around 31/32°C throughout the year and you’re practically guaranteed sunshine. Dec-Mar is the dry season in most of the country. Apr-Oct is low season in most of Thailand including Phuket and Krabi when temperatures and humidity creeps up and Jun-Sep brings the monsoon rains. Koh Samui is a peak season for tourism in Jul-Aug.

Beautiful beaches and vibrant cities: Thailand highlights

It’s little wonder that Thailand holiday packages have skyrocketed in popularity over recent years. It probably has something to do with the beautiful sunshine and the way it warms some of the world’s most idyllic beaches and islands. Perhaps it’s the cultural vibrancy and dazzling architecture of Bangkok, or it could be thanks to the colourful, lively festivals that take place throughout the year.

Whatever the reason, see the Land of Smiles for yourself with an unforgettable holiday to Thailand. Whether you want to sit back and relax on an all-inclusive Thailand holiday or explore the country on your honeymoon, here are just some of the things you can’t afford to miss.

Thailand’s capital is a city of contrasts – majestic ancient relics sit side by side with modern skyscrapers. It’s threaded with canals and characterised by chaotic, bustling markets. Here are some ideas to get you started with exploring this multi-faceted city.

  • Dinner reservations don’t get much more luxurious than the Red Sky Restaurant. This rooftop eatery is located at the Centara Grand at CentralWorld Hotel in Bangkok and is made distinctive by its vibrant red light that dominates the skyline. Head up to the 55th floor to enjoy panoramic views of the city, a variety of decadent dishes and mouth-watering cocktails mixed by expert bartenders before your eyes. Red Sky is best suited to couples, as young children aren’t allowed in the Sky Bar.
  • One of Bangkok's most famous attractions, the Grand Palace, was built in 1782 and was home to Thai kings for 150 years. During your visit, you can admire the intricate details of the craftsmanship and the grand reception halls. Make sure to wear socks and clothing that covers your legs and shoulders (but don’t worry if you forget – you can borrow clothing from a booth near the entrance).
  • Also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, Wat Pho is the largest temple in Bangkok and holds the biggest collection of Buddha images in all of Thailand. The main attraction, of course, is the 46-metre-long gold-leaf depiction of Buddha. Beat the crowds by avoiding the morning rush and visiting at about 5pm – it won't be much hotter than the early morning and you'll have a good 90 minutes to admire its majestic sights.

Experience the many nuances of holidays to Thailand by island-hopping around a few key destinations. Tick off the well-known spots – such as Phuket and Koh Phi Phi.

  • On Phuket, you’ll find The Vijitt Hotel and its celebrated V Spa, which is inspired by traditional Thai villages. We particularly recommend the banana leaf body wrap – it takes place in an outdoor pavilion surrounded by verdant jungle.

Learn more about the country's history and way of life by exploring its many cultural sights and attractions. Here are our top recommendations to check out on your holiday to Thailand.

  • The bustling Damnoen Saduak and Amphawa floating markets take place on boats brimming with exotic produce. Expect to find the usual fruits and vegetables as well as vendors cooking up local delights like squid and deep fried sweet dough. Many allow you to try before you buy, so bring an empty stomach and an open mind.
  • Within the grounds of Bangkok’s Grand Palace, you’ll find Wat Phra Kaew. It’s perhaps the most famous temple in Thailand, because it’s home to Phra Kaew Morakot – the Emerald Buddha – which is handcrafted from one single chunk of jade. The rest of the temple is intricately and elaborately decorated, and dates back to 1785. Avoid the bulk of the crowds by arriving just before the site opens at 8.30am.
  • Truly experience the Buddhist way of life by taking a meditation course with the monks in Chiang Mai. Learn about breath work, mindfulness and turning inward.

If you want to explore your adventurous side on your holiday to Thailand, how about trying one of the following?

  • They may be familiar to travel photography aficionados, but nothing compares to seeing the spectacular limestone rock formations of Ao Phang Nga National Park in real life, or touring the 42 islands, which are bordered by impressive cliffs.
  • At Elephant Hills in Khao Sok National Park, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with majestic Asian elephants in a safe, tented camp. Wash, feed and interact with these protected animals under the watchful eye of experienced tour guides.
  • Mountains and jungle surround the northern province of Chiang Mai. Explore it for yourself on a single or multi-day trek. To really get that adrenaline pumping, combine with other activities such as white water or bamboo rafting.

Thailand is famous for its lively festivals, taking place all year round. For an unforgettable Thailand holiday package, plan your getaway around any of these events.

  • Thai New Year is celebrated in April, and is marked by the three-day Songkran Festival. Also known as the Water Festival, its wild water fights traditionally mean that you're wishing for a year of blessings (as well as being pretty good fun). Songkran takes place across the country, but make sure to book your transport well in advance as buses and trains book up quickly at this time of year.
  • Chiang Mai is sometimes referred to as the Rose of the North, and it isn’t difficult to see why. Visit Chiang Mai in the first week of February to enjoy its colourful Flower Festival. Expect extravagant parades of flower boats and agricultural exhibits.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

Payments are being prioritised based on when the request was made, working in order from March 2020 onwards. We will always try to process refunds at the earliest opportunity, for requests before August our maximum timeframe is 120 days. As we are steadily reducing the maximum processing time for each new request, for refund requests made in August, we expect the maximum processing time to be 80 days, from the date the refund is requested. For those requesting a refund in September, we expect it to be processed within a maximum of 60 days, and then reduce to 30 days for refunds requested in October, before returning to normal levels.

We'll be in touch soon

To finalise the amendment, one of our customer advisors will phone you. We need to work through amend requests in departure date order so we can prioritise those with the most imminent travel plans, so you may have a longer wait than usual until we’re able to ring you back. We will help everyone that wants to move their holiday.
