Kimpton EPIC Hotel

Miami, Florida

The hotel

Epic by name and epic by nature, the Kimpton Epic sits along the water’s edge, overlooking the glistening Biscayne Bay. Take a dip into one of the two rooftop pools, and sip on a cocktail in your private poolside cabana. Seeing as you’re set on the waterfront, seafood is a must, and you can dine looking out on the sea itself. In need of some me-time? Head to the spa for a treatment, or try your hand at a yoga class. And when the evenings roll in, head out and experience one of Miami’s cool bars, or retreat to your room for some down-time.

My wife booked a short weekend getaway for us for my birthday. I knew about that part. We headed down on a Friday for two days of sun and fun in a city that never disappoints. We normally stay on South Beach but this was not the year or the season for that. So we booked downtown, and stayed at the Epic for the first time. We checked in early and our room on a higher floor wasn't ready. Victoria offered us an alternative room so we wouldn't have to wait but we told her we were going to go by the pool and would just see what she could do. We had a massage scheduled later in the day so we just headed to the pool for drinks and lunch. Armando poured us some big tequila drinks and we had a Wagyu burger that was awesome. Victoria came looking for us at the pool when our room was ready and that was when the surprise came. Because it was my birthday and there was so much going on in the hotel, Victoria asked the manager to upgrade us, to the PRESIDENTIAL suite. Wow! We were absolutely blown away. She went out of her way to make our short stay special and it turned out to be a dream weekend. The suite was on the 30th floor of the hotel with views to the East and South overlooking Biscayne Bay and all of the channels between the hotels and condos. The room was 1100 square feet with a huge master bedroom with a king bed, lounging area near one of the three balconies and a giant bathroom with double sinks and a big jacuzzi soaking tub, walk in shower and another balcony,. We had a walk in closet bigger than a home closet, a second bathroom in the hallway and a completely separate living room down a 20 foot hall with seating and dining area, and the third amazing balcony with views all around. After we settled in with a lot of help from Eduardo, we headed down to the Exhale spa for massages. Amazing and highly recommend this. Udonia was great! Dinner at Zuma downstairs was also a really amazing time and we watched boats dock and depart while we ate along the bay. Food was great! I can't say enough about the service, the food, the room. They really went out of their way and we will be back. One thing to note is that the outdoor valet parking situation was really tight. It might have been a function of spring break or the wedding on premises, but arriving it took a good 20 minutes to get someone to check in our car, and there's no other place to park so you have to wait. Leaving the hotel on checkout, it took a full 25 minutes to get the car, so leave enough time if you have tight plans. We never took the car out while we stayed there but if you're in a hurry to leave, you'll want to call ahead. That is the only complaint about the entire say. Five stars. :) Read less

I went to rebook immediately and the price was significantly higher, I messaged the resort and Luca and Melissa were wonderful. They reinstated my original booking at same price, really looking forward to staying :-) very pleased as with the difference in price I would probably have had to sadly book elsewhere. Exceptional service all round. Read less
