Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort Miami

Sunny Isles, Miami

The hotel

This hotel has a famous past, with celebrated entertainers such as Sammy Davis Jnr, Jimi Hendrix and Tina Turner often performing here. Things are still very lively now, but focusing much more on family-friendly pursuits than rock ‘n roll. With a fantastic oceanfront setting and many rooms having sweeping views of the sea, this is a very appealing option for those looking to be close to the centre of Miami but offering better value for money. There are lots of activities on offer to keep everyone busy all day, make sure you ask for the Escape to Fun activity programme when you check-in so you don’t miss a thing. For pampering whilst the kids are busy, make sure you venture to the Aveda spa.

The building is undergoing major remodeling, 1/2 of it is down to studs. The front is boarded up & looks abandoned from the road. Limited food offerings and restaurant hours. The $28 resort fee provided access to the pool - it is a complete rip off.

We decided our stay was just okay. Whomever is in charge of cleaning the beach out front each day should be re-trained because there is always trash everywhere on the beach. More attention should be paid to that. No reason anyone should stay at a resort and see the day prior's trash laying around. Outdoor pool bar was very nice. Pool was nice… Read more

More attention should be paid to that. No reason anyone should stay at a resort and see the day prior's trash laying around. Outdoor pool bar was very nice. Pool was nice as well. Room was dated but served its purpose. Walls are thin but slept well. There was a safe and and fridge in our room. Coffee is an issue as each morning there was a line to go into the coffee shop. We ended up getting our coffee at the gas station across the street which has some good baked goods as well. Easier than the over priced Starbucks in the resort waiting a half an hour or more. Would be nice to have coffee pots in each room but wasn't the case. Check in and check out was easy and the employees at front desk were all very nice. I am on the fence about staying there again. My husband and I can have fun and make the most of each situation but this resort definetely lacked a WOW factor. It is a shame because with more TLC it would be a cool little place to vacation. Pros: 1. The beach was nice, and the hotel is next to the pier. 2. The bartenders at the outdoor bar did a great job. We had drinks daily and got lunch from them daily. The food came out fast and was good. 3. The hotel is in a great location, close to restaurants and plenty of stores Cons: 1. The online pictures of the resort/facilities are… Read more

The food came out fast and was good. 3. The hotel is in a great location, close to restaurants and plenty of stores Cons: 1. The online pictures of the resort/facilities are very misleading. The hotel rooms and outside pool area were not well kept or maintained. The gym equipment is very old and not well kept. 2. Hotel wanted $150 to do an early check-in if your room was available prior to 4 PM… never have had a hotel charge an early check-in fee 3. The pool/beach was very understaffed. It seemed like there was never enough people to do what needed to be done (clean the pool, clean the pool deck, put out chairs, help guests with beach cabanas, etc). 4. In the 7 days that we were there the pool was cleaned maybe 4 times, and when it was cleaned out it was during the morning when people were already laying out. 5. The pool deck consisted of cups, cigarette butts, and other trash/debris from the prior day. They just didn’t do a good job cleaning or maintaining the pool area, which is where most of the patrons spent their time. 6. There were not nearly enough lawn chairs or towels for the pool. Every morning people would come down and not have a chair or towel to use. 7. We were told at check-in that due to Covid housekeeping would not be coming to rooms unless requested. On our first full day I came back to the room around lunch to grab a few things and noticed that the trash was emptied and new towels were brought to us, we did NOT request housekeeping. Later in the evening before dinner, my wife and I both noticed we were missing a $100 bill from our wallets ($200 total). Our wallets were not locked up because we did not expect anyone to be in our room. We did file a report at the front desk and have still not received any update on the investigation (it’s been 2 weeks). From that day forward we left the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and locked our items in the safe. We went an entire week without housekeeping because we didn’t trust having anyone in the room. Its been a few hours since we checked in, and it already is by far one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed at. Shower in our room did not work. No one ever picks the phone, so had to go down to the front desk and ask for help. Maintenance could not fix the issue, so was back at the front desk again. First they said we could use the pool showers (yes, you read correctly, every time we needed to shower we could just come 7 floors down and use the shower, and make our way back up again!). That obviously wasn't acceptable, and we asked for a change of room. First they said no room was available, then a room was available (without the ocean front view, that was in our original booking) and were asked to choose whether a view or shower was more important to us. After an argument, an ocean front room suddenly became available. The room though was at ground level and with barely any view. Packing everything up and dragging a tired kid to another room which wasn't equivalent to our original room, did not seem worth the hassle, so we gave up. Our no-shower room is a suite with a sofa bed, and room does not have any extra sheets, pillows or blankets. Since no one ever picks the phone, you have to go down to the front desk for every request. It's only been an hour since our request, and we are still waiting for the blankets and pillows! 😓 Disrespectful and dishonest staff, very shabby hotel with construction all around and broken down rooms is not worth any $$$ that you may pay to stay here. AVOID STAYING HERE. Read less

This hotel was very disappointing. Our room furniture had clearly not been cleaned or changed in years. The couch cushions were squashed flat and dirty. The bathroom had several long hairs in the shower and on the counter when we arrived. The metal around the doors was very rusted. Several towels were stained. The hotel has COVID compliance signs throughout the floors and lobby but compliance with the stated mask policy was 50% at best, even at the check-in counter. The request to limit # of people in the elevator was universally ignored. Beach towels are supposedly included in the resort fee but we were told all the towels were dirty and were never able to get a towel or lounge chair. Restaurant food was very disappointing. Half the building seems to be under construction. I also say it is bad for couples because most guests seem to be families with very young children. Spend a bit more and stay elsewhere. Read less
