Disney's Contemporary Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

The closest hotel to the Magic Kingdom Park is the height of retro, '70s cool. The monorail enters the lobby through a 'curtain' of air to drop off and pick up. The stylish, gourmet 15th-floor California Grill restaurant offers incredible bird's-eye views over the Magic Kingdom Park. Meet your favourite characters in Chef Mickey's Restaurant, while tired parents can revive themselves in the cocktail lounge. There's a big swimming pool, tennis courts and even water-skiing on the lake.

We rented a wheel chair from Scooterbug (Preferred Disney Provider). Wheel chair was parked outside upon our arrival. Transportation was always easy to use. Disney World is amazing, and I am so glad that we chose this vacation for her. We purchased a Dry Pro waterproof cast cover online since she was allergic to the waterproof cast. It worked well for her, and gave her the ability to get in the pool. We stayed in the main tower of the contemporary, which was under construction while we were there. It never interfered with our enjoyment of the resort. We really only had 2 minor complaints about the Contemporary, the first is that the shower grout was mildewed. The second was that the gym was dark and felt a little bit like a dungeon. Thank you, Disney does an amazing job with disability services., and I would not recommend rescheduling a family vacation due to a broken leg. Read less

It’s hard to believe that it has been almost 48 years since my last stay at the fabulous Contemporary Resort. Our trip was my wife and sons first Disney World experience. From the moment we drove past the entrance to Disney World and our arrival at the iconic Contemporary Resort, we knew this trip would be Magical. The cast members at the resort were friendly and accommodating. Our room was in the main tower and it had a wonderful view of Bay Lake. We will definitely be staying at the Contemporary Resort again. I am not going to write a book, although I could for how horrid our special stay was. but I could not imagine worst service from the staff. Cynthia, Chaunte, and Alfred made no attempt to make me feel welcome. Somehow someone messed up with our extension stay and she would not allow me in the room even though we had booked another night. she kept only saying I SHOW YOU CHECKED OUT. I asked for manager she kept blowing me off, she wouldn't let me in room for a cc because I was literally in pj's getting breakfast. she also wouldn't take my husbands card over the phone. So, about 40 minutes INTO THIS DISASTER my husband was at another property charging our car and had to RUN to help me. Then she started lying to manager about how she was trying to help me. $600 a night during Christmas season for my 30th birthday? WOW. do NOT go here. unless you like feeling belittled and feel stupid in front of 30 people behind me why she only has a answer of I SHOW YOU CHECKED OUT YESTERDAY, yet we got into the room at 10pm that night. WORST DISNEY EMPLOYEES EVER, SPECIFICALLY CYNTHIA. disney, work on your staff. Read less

We stayed at Disney's Contemporary Resort for the first time ever because of lower prices (covid). We could never afford it before. The room was really nice and big! We were in the Garden Wing facing the parking lot but could see monorails and boats go by. Housekeeping only comes every other day and only picks up garbage and leaves new towels. They do not make the bed or anything else but it was fine. This resort is not really Disney "themed" but it was just awesome getting to afford to stay here one time. POR is our Disney home away from home but it's still closed and looks so sad when we went by it on the bus. We never waited long for a bus. We ate at Contempo Cafe once with mobile order and it took forever and the food was just "ok"...nothing great. Our biggest complaint would be the that both mornings we tried to get on the monorail for MK it was not working/running! So annoying when this is a perk and special thing we looked forward to when staying at this hotel. The pool looks fun but we didn't get in...it was packed almost every day. Nice gift shops too. Overall it was great. The Electrical Water Pageant was nice to watch also! Read less

We visited the main building at The Contemporary Resort in mid-March 2021 and were very pleased overall. We would not hesitate to stay at The Contemporary in the future. POSITIVES * Rooms are larger than average. Refrigerator, coffee maker, good closet space. * Wonderful location ... Easy walk to Magic Kindgom. * Monorail to Grand Floridian, Polynesian, TTC. * Most main building rooms have beautiful views of either Magic Kingdom or lake. * Very easy access to lobby bar, restaurants, general store and monorail. * Big pool with plenty of chairs. Chairs on beach as well. Elevator ride to pool. * Parking is close to building, very short walk. * Buses come right to front door for pick-up. NEGATIVES * Bathroom floor plan not great. Shower is in main area with sinks. Toilet separated. * Rooms are a bit dated, but in good shape overall. Seems like this hotel is often overlooked as a first choice. Be sure to continually check the WDW website ... you may better pricing comes along. Easy to cancel and re-book online. Read less
