We had to cancel our honeymoon in Europe due to coronavirus and instead spent a few nights in this hotel as a “honeymoon” replacement. When making the reservation we told the hotel that we will be celebrating our honeymoon, upon check-in the front desk woman congratulated us but that was it, the hotel did nothing special or kind for us during our stay. I frequently stay at 5-star hotels around the world and even when I’m a returning guest the hotel at a minimum leaves a handwritten note or provides a fruit basket, glass of champagne, or a few chocolates. We got nothing. We booked a suite and a room rate that came with breakfast, a further room upgrade, and hotel credit, so my comment here is not expecting the world just because it’s my honeymoon, but it was really shocking to not have any of the service that makes a 5-star a 5-star. Disappointing. We asked the concierge to make us a reservation at Shanghai Terrace, they did this for us but then a few hours later we were told they couldn’t honor the reservation. Again, this was our honeymoon trip, come on! I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone calling the restaurant and in the end they found our reservation, but again nothing special for our honeymoon. Further, I booked this hotel because the hotel website talked up all the coronavirus safety measures that the hotel has put in place. The website talked up temperature checks upon entry, distancing measures, limited guests in elevators. We did not get temperature checked at all during the trip. We kept our distance from other guests but the hotel did nothing to encourage guests from keeping their distance from us. Breakfast is served inside instead of on the outdoor patio. There are signs and lots of hand sanitizer which is good, but that is about it. A nice experience but disappointing lack of service. Read less

Unbelievably terrible service. The Peninsula may have the toys such as in room iPads and TVs in the bathroom but it is severely lacking in customer service. I stay in hotels 100-150 nights per year, and am well-versed in luxury brands as a lifelong Four Seasons loyalist. The Four Seasons being closed, I decided to try the Peninsula. What a mistake. For the first time in my life I checked out of a hotel early and moved to a different location (the Waldorf, which had amazing service). I did this because after a rude check-in experience, I later had the audacity to ask Danny at the front desk about a policy that didn't seem to make sense as it was nowhere in line with the Peninsula's competitors. Instead of a friendly explanation I was told I could check out and move hotels. Not even a base line attempt to explain or fix the situation. His condescending attitude was truly shocking at a "luxury" property. Since the Peninsula didn't care about my business and their only suggestion was to leave for a competing property that is just what I did. First I spoke to the manager, Brenda, privately and very politely to explain the situation. She couldn't have been more useless if she tried. And she never followed up as she promised. In the rare instances I have a problem at a hotel I always give the property a chance to make it right before getting a manager involved or posting a negative review. Unfortunately, even with multiple chances this property failed miserably. It should be noted that I am a member of American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts through my Amex Platinum. If this is how they treat high-value customers during a pandemic in which their occupancy rate was somewhere around 20%, God help the poor soul who checks in without any program benefits when things get back to normal. I will never set foot in this hotel again. I am more than happy to continue to give my business to the Four Seasons, and now the Waldorf, both of which treat me like a valued guest. Read less

Switched to Peninsula Chicago after we had to cut short a week stay from another Hilton hotel property in Chicago since we heard they just reopened last July 23rd. They graciously welcomed us an early checked in right after checking out at noon from the previous hotel. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Peninsula Chicago never fails to impress their guest with their outstanding hospitality and their rooms. We were spoiled during the entire stay. Our Grand Deluxe double room provided best views of the Magnificent Mile. We got breakfast at the Lobby, and it was fantastic. I am happy their menu has vegan options as well. We were very happy we managed to stay at our 3rd Peninsula property: 2 in Asia, 1st in the US. Read less

I checked into the Chicago Peninsula the first day it opened after its COVID-19 shutdown. The staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel was immaculate. The service was impeccable. It is great to have the Peninsula back.! There is no other hotel in Chicago that can compete!

Wishing all of the Peninsula team the best, in these difficult times. Let’s work together to beat this! Clearly we do not have much leadership and guidance from those that profess to know everything! Nevertheless, I am confident that enough of us will listen to the experts, to allow sanity to prevail. Here’s to rational thinking! Stay safe all!… Read more

Nevertheless, I am confident that enough of us will listen to the experts, to allow sanity to prevail. Here’s to rational thinking! Stay safe all! We look forward to our next excellent cocktail in your property once we finally get through this. Love the rooftop area guys! One of the best pieces of real estate in all of Chicago! Read less
