The Algonquin Hotel

Midtown, New York

The hotel

One of New York’s prized historic buildings, The Algonquin first opened its doors to the public on November 22, 1902. Attracting the glitterati with its luxury accommodation and Time Square location, it’s been popular ever since and not just with humans! Yes, you read that right – several cats have also called The Algonquin home – each named Hamlet or Matilda according to gender and afforded the same hospitality as everyone else. Guest rooms are second to none in the city, effortlessly combining old world elegance with cutting edge amenities and stunning city views. There’s a fitness centre for the enthusiast or simply order a cocktail from the iconic Blue Bar, one of the most desirable meeting places in NYC and indulge in a bit of people watching instead. The Round Table Restaurant is another sought-after destination, once the haunt of literary and theatrical notables it is now one of the places to see and be seen.

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend in town. The hotel is very convenient to the theater district and very quiet and comfortable. It is very historic and the lobby respects its history. The staff are quite helpful and welcoming. The bed was firm and led to a good nights sleep. The room itself was very small so its not a place to hang… Read more

Loved the hotel, location and valet service. Great for a quick trip to big Apple. Staff was great, especially Nik in Engineering. Breakfast was delish and the nightcap in The Blue Bar a good time. Thanks to the Algonquin, Marriott, and to Nik!

Very tiny rooms, no warm welcome. The staff at the check in were very unfriendly. We had to approach them and greet them and mention we are checking in no proactive ness. Despite being an elite gold member no upgrade and our credit card was charged for a meal we didn’t consume despite being out all day and all night, sent an email asking for an explanation and no response so far. The Marriott bonvoy points haven’t been credited yet to the account yet despite numerous emails we sent. The only one time we attempted to eat at the restaurant, the food was horrible hence we went out. The only friendly person was the bellman Eddie. Maybe we chose the worst time of the year to stay here but I don’t think we will stay here again. Read less
