W New York Times Square

Midtown, New York

The hotel

You may be in the heart of NYC but you’ll enjoy peace and quiet in a W hotel room. Head to The Living Room, complete with DJs and an extensive drinks list! The hotel’s Blue Fin Restaurant is also highly recommended, and comes complete with a sushi bar. If that's not enough, there's Dos Caminos serving Mexican fare, and a margarita bar! Directly facing the bright lights of Broadway, a dramatic, floating, stainless steel staircase leads the way to a semi-private alcove dining area where guests can kick-back and listen to the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie. A wonderful place to stay for couples, friends and family, you’ll also enjoy the W’s famous Whatever/Whenever service – nothing is too much trouble for the staff, all you have to do is ask!

I've stayed in other W's (Barcelona, Amsterdam) and the W Times Square doesn't even compare to these, falling far behind them. We arrived late in the evening to unfriendly and even intimidating doormen/bouncers who barely acknowledged us let alone offer to help with our bags. We were due a room upgrade and I called ahead to confirm this prior to arriving (being a Marriott Gold member) however the check-in lady was clear there were no rooms available. Upon finding our room we were disappointed - the rooms are old, worn down, small and the lighting is horrendous (bright white LED). The bed felt like a bed wetting sheet was underneath the bed sheet...certainly not up to W standards. Our view was of a lower roof top with lights shining in so we asked to move - after kicking up a bit of a fuss, miraculously an upgrade did become available. The lounge is rather seedy with no windows/natural light and a worn down bar with parts of the bar top chipping off... the Edition hotel's bar around the corner was a welcome improvement. The concierge was however very helpful and professional. To add to the issues of unfriendly doormen/bell-staff my girlfriend was told to get out of the lift by one of them after being unable to get out... after being blocked by his trolley! Overall there's clearly an attitude issue among some of the staff and the interiors are dated, worn and far from comfortable. This is not a 5 star hotel, 3 at a push. Read less

We heard the concert from the room and could see the preparations on the days before the event. Important to know that the hotel has no view to Times Square and staying here does not give you access to the event! Times Square is normally busy, but New Year’s day and night it’s just crazy, we had to get a letter from the hotel for the police to allow us back in and we had to take a 10 blocks detour as all the streets were closed! We didn’t realize it gets so messy! Other than that we loved this futuristic hotel and the lovely corner room. Read less

Took my daughter into NYC for a concert and stayed overnight at this hotel. This place is the ultimate in modern design. My tween was loving all the designs and how the lobby was decorated for Halloween. They have a section off to the side of the lobby with NYC graffiti art (great for Instagram pictures). We loved our room, the location was great and the hotel decor was cool and funky! Good dining within hotel at Dos Caminos, but lots of food nearby. We had excellent service from staff; the valet was expensive, (of course.)

You have to go up an elevator to the lobby in a cool street entrance with a feature that makes it seem underwater. Another bank of elevators goes to the rooms. This is moderately annoying but not a big deal. The rate I got was pretty good, but beware the massive $29 "urban fee" - you do get a "free gift" (a pair of gloves and bag) and $25 cocktail credit at the bar, but I'm going to keep calling out automatic hidden fees like this until hotels stop adding them or they are made illegal.
